International Address Form Testing Checklist

A QA checklist for country selectors, postal-code rules, state fields, mobile keyboards, and leading zeros.

By Charlie Simmon ·

An address form that works for the United States can fail in Canada, Japan, or Germany. The field order, the postal code, and the meaning of “state” all change.

Country selector

Changing the country should update the field labels and the validation rules. It should not leave a US state dropdown visible for a German address.

Postal codes and leading zeros

Test a code that starts with zero, an alphanumeric code, and a country with no postal code. Confirm that the value survives save, reload, CSV export, and JSON export.

Mobile and keyboard

Use a text keyboard for alphanumeric postal codes. Do not force a numeric keyboard for every country. Check that the country selector is usable on a small screen.

Questions

Which countries should I test first?+
Start with the US, Canada, the UK, Germany, Japan, and a country without postal codes such as Hong Kong or the UAE.
Should I test a failed submission?+
Yes. Submit an empty form, a short postal code, and a country change, then check that the errors are specific and the data is preserved.

Examples are synthetic. Do not use a generated address for identity checks, account registration, or delivery.
