An address is personal data. Even a synthetic address can look real, so treat address fields, logs, and exports with the same care you would give a phone number or an email.

Collect only what you need

Ask for the fields the delivery or verification actually uses. A newsletter form rarely needs a street address. A checkout may need a unit, but not a date of birth.

Keep test data separate

Do not mix generated fixtures with production customer records. Label the fixture file, keep it out of analytics, and never use a real customer address as a test case without consent.

Logs and analytics

Avoid putting full addresses in URLs, error messages, or analytics events. If you need to debug, log a field-level error code rather than the value.

Questions

Is a generated address personal data?+
It can resemble a real address. Treat it as test data and do not combine it with a real name or contact detail.
Should I log the address on a failed submission?+
Prefer logging the field name and error code. If you must log the value, redact it and set a short retention period.

Examples are synthetic. Do not use a generated address for identity checks, account registration, or delivery.
