MAC Address Lookup
Paste a MAC address in any common format. The tool validates the 48-bit value, shows the OUI and vendor if it is in the local sample, and converts the address to every format plus its IPv6 link-local form.
- Free
- No signup
- Runs locally
Format-tolerant input
Paste from Windows, Linux, macOS, Cisco, or a spreadsheet. Separators are normalized before validation.
Vendor sample, clearly labelled
The lookup names a vendor only when the OUI is in the local sample; unknown prefixes stay unknown instead of guessing.
Decoded address flags
See unicast/multicast, globally unique/locally administered, the OUI, and the IPv6 link-local result in one view.
MAC Address Lookup questions
- Colon-separated, hyphen-separated, Cisco dot notation, and 12 plain hexadecimal digits are accepted. Whitespace and an optional 0x prefix are ignored.
- No. The page ships a small curated OUI sample for common vendors and works offline. An unknown prefix is reported as not in the sample, not as proof that the address is invalid.
- The least significant bit of the first octet is the I/G bit. If it is 0 the address is unicast; if it is 1 it is multicast. The lookup shows the decoded value.
- Bit 1 of the first octet is the U/L bit. A value of 1 marks a locally administered address, which is common in virtual machines and test networks.
- No. A MAC address identifies a network interface, not a person or a physical device. The OUI only points to the organization that registered the prefix.
